Doug has an extensive background  as a tennis player, starting with winning National Title as a junior in Australia where he was trained by the world's best...Laver, Rosewall and Newcombe... playing at SAU,  and receiving a 1987 ranking of #1 in the national NAIA.

He has coached all levels of the game from the basic beginner to players competing on the ATP circuit.

By taking over the management of Gulf Hills Racquet Club, he fulfilled a long-time ambition to have directed clubs on all three surfaces: Hard Court, Grass, and Clay.  The level of experience, expertise, and depth of commitment he has funneled into our "Little Southern Community" is deeply appreciated by all of us here at Gulf Hills, and we are so lucky to have him here.

Hello Everyone!

I am very grateful for the opportunity to assist as one of the junior pros at Gulf Hills.

I am originally from this area. I attended all 12 years of public schooling in Ocean Springs. From there I took my basics at MGCCC-JC. After Junior College, I got a bachelors in special education at USM and a Masters in secondary education at William Carey. I currently work full time at the MGCCC in Gautier as a program director for young adults with special needs.

I also have an extensive background in tennis. Tennis is a huge passion of mine and is absolutely my favorite sport to play and coach. I have coached 4 previous seasons as a high school coach and am beginning a 5th season now as the St. Martin Yellow Jackets head tennis coach.

As a player, I began playing in 2007 and since then, I have accomplished a few personal goals. Some of them are as follows:

1. Winner of over 10 local tournaments

2. Winner of a league state championship in 2009

3. Winner of a Flex League

4. Coach of a playoff high school team

5. Number one NTRP 4.0 in 2010 in Mississippi

6. Rated 4.5 since 2015 (Went 6-1 in singles in 2018 league)

As a player and coach, I emphasize the value of practice and learning how to be a consistent ball striker. I believe in sound fundamentals along with a high level of sportsmanship. Most of all, tennis should always be fun.

I hope to see you on the court!

I can be reached anytime at rmtennisman@gmail.com or  Cell :228-297-6470

Sincerely, Ryan Mason

Ryan is also available for private lessons when scheduled in advance.
